Commiphora myrrha is a tree that is native to the Arabian Peninsula and the Horn of Africa, particularly Somalia, Ethiopia, and Yemen. It is commonly known as Myrrh, and is a member of the Burseraceae family, the same family as Frankincense.
Myrrh resin is derived from the sap of the Commiphora myrrha tree, and has been used for its medicinal and aromatic properties for thousands of years. In ancient times, myrrh was highly valued as a perfume and incense.
Today, it is used in aromatherapy, perfumery, and as an ingredient in natural cosmetics.
Myrrh is typically burned as incense or used in essential oil form for aromatherapy. It has a warm, earthy, and slightly bitter aroma, and is often blended with other essential oils like frankincense, lavender, and patchouli to create unique scents.
