Our Commiphora kataf (AKA Commiphora holtziana) or Habak Hagar resin comes from Somalia. Habak Hagar is often mistaken as, and sold as, Opoponax (C.guidottii). Habak Hagar has the most most alluring dusky fragrance all it's own even before it is heated or burned, and it carries that allure into the heat. It is deep and perfumed and not bitter smelling but full of that musky myrrh sensuousness we expect from most myrrhs. It is no where near as floral as its Commiphora myrrha sister but makes up for it in its sweet muskiness.
It is important to remember some resins don't look that sexy but save that quality for your olfactory sense. This resin could be easily powdered if you are interested in blending it with other woods or resins to make your own incense. I don't think you will be disappointed. If you are a lover of rare and exotic resins, Habak Hagar is definitely worth trying. Its unique scent and versatility make it a great addition to any incense collection.
